11+ (Year 7) entry to Brighton College is directly into the Lower School, and not to our Prep School. The admissions process for Year 7 starts in Year 6. Registration is recommended at least one year prior to entry. Families are encouraged to visit the College to get a flavour of the school, and we also offer a number of Taster Days prior to assessment for prospective Year 7 pupils.

We do not offer boarding at Brighton College until the Fourth Form; however, boarding is available from Year 4 at Handcross Park Prep School – part of the Brighton College family of schools, which is just north of Brighton.
The ideal way to see the Lower School and meet us is at one of our Open Mornings, which are held on one or two Saturdays each term. You might also like to arrange an individual visit, which are available throughout term time during the week, so you can see first-hand what life is like here at Brighton. If you would like to apply for a place in our Lower School for your child, you will need to complete our online registration form. We recommend that you register as soon as possible, and by the beginning of October.
We hold Lower School Taster Days in May, September and November.
We invite all children registered for our Lower School to join us for the Academic Assessment Day, which takes place early in December of the school year before they join us. They'll be assessed in maths, English, and verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Later, in January of the school year before they join us, all children will be invited to an Interview and Activities Day. They’ll take part in a range of fun activities with our teachers, and also have two short interviews with members of the teaching staff.
All candidates are automatically assessed for an academic scholarship through the papers they sit on the Academic Assessment Day. We offer other scholarships and bursaries too.
Lower School places are offered by the end of January of the school year before pupils join us. Once you have confirmed your child's acceptance, we will send you a welcome pack and an invitation to come and meet their new class during the summer term. All Lower School pupils are allocated pupil buddies to welcome them and help them settle in quickly.
13+ (Year 9) is our main entry point for the College. Our typical admissions process for Year 9 starts in Year 6 with the ISEB Common Pre-Test assessments.

2026 and 2027 entry: For pupils studying in the UK, please register by 1 October 2024.

Children registering for a place in Year 9 will be asked to sit ISEB pre-tests. Children successful at this stage will then be invited to an Orientation Day in February of Year 6, which will give them a chance to get to know the College through a day of exciting activities, along with interviews and written assessments in English and Maths. Year 9 places are offered in early March of Year 6.
We offer a wide range of scholarships at Year 9, including a mix of traditional and more innovative scholarships. These are assessed in Year 8 and include dance, choral, music, sport, art, chess and drama, in addition to our academic scholarships and bursaries.
Children with offers are invited to attend a Taster Day in the October of their Year 7, ahead of the Acceptance Deadline the following January. Closer to starting, there will be a fun programme of events for your child to get to know the College and meet their Housemaster or Housemistress and their new peers, including an Induction Day.
We welcome overseas pupils from all over the world, and have a truly international pupil community. We offer day places at all entry points, including Years 7 and 8, and boarding places are available at Years 9, 10 and 12. Please register by early September before the year of entry.

Please note: Handcross Park Prep School, one of our family of schools, offer boarding from Year 4.

Your child will be invited to attend an individual interview. This will be conducted in person or via Microsoft Teams.
Our Admissions team will be in contact to help you make the necessary arrangements for your child. Assessments need to be held at an approved invigilation centre in the applicant’s relevant city. All candidates will sit the College’s assessments in English and mathematics.
Results will be sent via email by the end of November.
As a licensed sponsor with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), the school can sponsor a non-UK nationality pupil for a Child Student study visa upon request.
A Child Student study visa is most suitable for full boarders. If you're applying for a day place or weekly boarding place, and the pupil would require a Child Student study visa, please contact our Visas Coordinator to discuss if sponsorship will be possible.
