A Culture of Kindness

At Brighton College, we believe the best way of achieving a happy and content community is to ensure everyone feels valued for who they are. We want our pupils to be first-class versions of themselves, not second-class versions of someone else. We place great emphasis on mutual respect.

The support from our outstanding teachers and House tutors will help stimulate interest in your subject areas, reinforcing the spirit of independent enquiry that defines learning at university. To reflect this independence, our dedicated Sixth Form Centre provides you with your own space to work and relax.

We understand that you’re older and more independent – but there are still people on hand to guide and help as you navigate your way through classes, exams, the university admissions process and what lies beyond school.

Along with achieving some of the best academic results in the country, our pupils leave Brighton College as well-rounded, confident and kind young adults.

All pupils join a House, each of which has its own Housemistress or Housemaster. Each House has a Common Room for relaxing, and a team of tutors. There are no social hierachies in Houses; all forms mix together and older pupils are actively involved in mentoring younger pupils. Our Sixth Form pupils are given training in mentoring and often cite these relationships as one of their most memorable experiences here.

Wellbeing is at the centre of our school culture and encompasses many aspects of mental, physical, spiritual and emotional health. But at its core is our ability to look after ourselves, and those around us.

Our Health and Wellbeing Centre is staffed by a dedicated team of qualified nurses who are on hand 24 hours a day. Our full-time Nutritionist is also on hand to ensure our pupils are healthy as well as happy.

We make the most of our glorious location by the sea, by hosting weekly sea swimming sessions. Seminars on the benefits of cold water therapy are run by Dr Mark Harper, a consultant anaethetist and cold water therapist, and Andy White, an Ocean Set coach.

Sessions on sleep science are also held by a Clinical Scientist, to ensure our pupils are fully up-to-speed with the latest research around sleep hygiene.

Our pupils know that there is a whole world beyond the classroom, and we encourage them to remember that they are a part of society, not apart from it.

The best way to experience what life is like at Brighton College Sixth Form is to join us at an Open Morning, where you will have the chance to talk to pupils and teachers about what makes our school such a special place, and to answer any questions you have about life here.
