House System

As a Sixth Former at Brighton College, you’ll be joining a happy, kind, diverse and supportive community. You’ll find like-minded young people who work hard and achieve incredible success and also truly enjoy their time at school and the many opportunities on offer.

You will join one of our day or boarding Houses when you arrive at the College. Each has its own personality and is so much more than just a physical space. Houses are the heartbeat of Brighton College and your House will become your social epicentre. Everyone works together to represent their House in a vast range of competitions and events – from Sports Day to performing in House Song at Brighton Dome. House balls and socials are aplenty, as are opportunities to organise and take part in House charity events.

You’ll enjoy your own club in the heart of the school, exclusively for Sixth Form. Our stunning new Sixth Form Club is a spectacular place to hang out with friends, catch up on the latest news or plan your weekend. Upstairs you’ll find The Study – a beautiful space to focus on your work. The Global Futures Centre and Head of Sixth Form are also based here, so there’s always someone to chat to about university options or life in the Sixth Form.

Scott’s Café is open daily serving artisan coffees, specialist hot chocolates, fresh fruit smoothies and a wide variety of snacks. A light, airy and relaxing space to meet with friends or collaborate on a project.

Your Sixth Form years should be the best two years of your school life. There is the freedom to pursue subjects that really excite you. Our pupils achieve outstanding A-level results, meaning they have a wide range of university options available to them. This is due to the superb teaching they receive, and the way pupils encourage each other to aim high and be the best they can be.

A-levels are not the only way in which intellectual development is encouraged. We offer a range of trips to enhance learning as well as to assist with charity projects worldwide. We believe in enabling you to explore multiple contexts and cultures, and so we take regular academic, social and sporting trips to destinations such as Ghana, Poland, Switzerland, France, Spain, Portugal and Sri Lanka.

We aim to develop intellectually curious young adults who are prepared to play a full, active and positive role in society. You could find yourself taking a leading role in one of our 150 clubs, organising social and charity events, directing plays or leading pupil committees.

Our Sixth Formers set the tone for the school and there is a wide array of leadership opportunities on offer. You could become a Head of School, a Prefect, a Sports Captain, head up one of our many clubs and societies or become a mentor to younger pupils. Training is given in mentoring and our Sixth Formers find this a hugely rewarding experience.

In 2010, Brighton College became the first independent school in the UK to include Entrepreneurship in the curriculum. All Sixth Formers take part in our annual competition to develop a business proposal, aided by a group of dedicated mentors and guest speakers. The ultimate aim is to win a share of the £10,000 prize, that enables the winning team to take their product to market.

Our commitment to you doesn't just stop after you leave us: you'll get to join the Old Brightonians network with over 8,500 members worldwide.

Every pupil becomes part of Brighton College Connect, a global networking platform that includes an events programme, formal dinners, reunion drinks, sporting events and is a great launch pad for professional networking.

Whether it is finding an internship, preparing for a job interview or making connections with experts in the field, you will find this community invaluable.
