Lower Sixth pupil, Jenny, has been enjoying an excellent summer with her England U16 teammates competing in both the series against Germany and the end of season 4 Nations tournament.
For the series against Germany, Jenny played in both matches and made a number of great saves. Her England team fought hard in the first match and were very unlucky to lose 2-3. The second day saw the England girls fight hard again, and by the end of the Third Quarter in this rematch it was 2-2 ahead of one of the most intense final quarters of hockey possible. With 6 goals scored, it gave England a historic 6-4 win - only the 3rd time they have beaten Germany in over 10 years!
The attention switched to the 4 Nations in Glasgow, and saw England take on Scotland, Germany and Belgium. Again, Jenny played in 3 of the 4 matches and made a number of good saves. The German game was intense and again had a number of goals in the last quarter, but sadly resulted in a 6-9 defeat. The next day the girls took on a very tough Belgium side (the ultimate winners of the tournament). Again, the girls were behind at half time (1-4) but fought back hard to finish 5-5.
It was a great effort for the girls but they were disappointed not to get a final winning goal. The third day saw jenny's England take on the hosts, dominating most of the play in a 7-2 rout. Sadly, though, it wasn’t enough to get them to the 1st/2nd place final, so on the final day they took on Scotland again and a solid 4-0 victory saw the girls take third place overall.
Regardless, it was a wonderful opportunity for Jenny to demonstrate her skills on the world stage, and we're incredibly excited to follow her in what promises to be a bright future.
