Pupils are celebrating today after receiving an astonishing 43 offers from either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge – the highest number in the College’s history. We are immensely proud of our pupils - a huge congratulations!
Reading really is on the rise at Brighton College with a record number completing the Autumn Reading Challenge this year!
Many congratulations to the 185 pupils and staff who read four books from different genres during the Michaelmas term. We were delighted to have author Simon Packham join us for the celebration event this week. He has written several books for young people and been shortlisted for multiple awards. He opened the event by talking about the way that reading enhances life and how immersive it can be, taking you to different times and places.
He emphasised that books can help you to feel what it is like to be someone else while developing empathy. He also shared the example of someone aged 101 that he met in his local library and he noted that unlike sport, which you may not be able to continue in old age, reading really is for life! There was a real buzz as pupils celebrated reading while enjoying doughnuts.
Certificates signed by the Head Master were presented and the lucky winners of the prize draw were:
- Ethan (School, Lower Sixth)
- Mrs Brennan (Receptionist)
- Miss Hughes - (Diversity and Inclusion)
Chocolates were awarded for the best reviews to:
- Precious (Seldon, Upper Sixth)
- Ms O’Gorman (Senior Development Officer)
- Mrs Barkshire (Teacher of EAL)
Look out for a new Library reading challenge coming soon!
