Pupils are celebrating today after receiving an astonishing 43 offers from either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge – the highest number in the College’s history. We are immensely proud of our pupils - a huge congratulations!
The purpose of the challenge was to collectively row and cycle 2000km, while raising £2000 for Revive International, a charity that runs two orphanges in Recife, Brazil. After an inspiring assembly last Friday from the Director of Revive, the two Houses took on the challenge with gusto.
There were a few bleary eyes entering the SSS at 7am, but within minutes, all 18 bikes and three rowing machines were full, the cake stall was filling up and the music was blasting. This continued throughout the day until we stopped at 5pm. It was incredible to see pupils take on their own personal challenges, whether that was to cycle 1km the fastest, challenge for rowing the furthest distance or just jump on a bike and contribute whatever they could.
It was similarly amazing to see all bikes and rowers in use right up to the final countdown at 5pm when they had to beg them to stop and record their results! After some frantic calculations it was realised that they had not only reached their target, but had smashed it by covering a whopping 2907.6km on the bikes and 168.43km on the rowing machines giving us a grand combined total of 3076.03km.
They have currently raised £1,925 for Revive, but there is still time to donate as they look to further smash their target!
