England Rugby team by the posts in front of the SSS with a Ukraine flag

It has been a memorable few days for Brighton College as we welcomed England's national rugby union team for three days as part of their Six Nations training camp.

During England Rugby's three-day training camp at the College this week, some of our Ukrainian pupils met the England squad.

Our Ukrainian Scholars were delighted to chat to the players and learn more about a sport that they had never heard of a year ago.

Two pupils were asked to address Steve Borthwick and his players during their training camp.

Vlad, age 18, told them about how he came to England alone from Poland, finding foster parents in Brighton, and how he was putting his life back together after coming to this country.

“It has been a very difficult and sad time for me but the warmth of the English people has been wonderful. I am so grateful. And it was so wonderful today to get such a warm response from England’s incredible rugby team. I had never heard of rugby a year ago!”

Arriving on the back of a scintillating victory at Wales' Principality Stadium, Steve Borthwick's England journeyed down to the coast, utilising our world-class facilities over the course of the week.

Pupils and teachers alike were given the opportunity to watch on as the national side trained on our Home Ground, inspiring the next generation of sporting stars.

We thank England Rugby for their immense co-operation and kindness in what has been another memorable occasion for the rugby department.
