It was an honour for our award-winning Chamber Choir to deliver Evensong at London’s magnificent St Paul’s Cathedral this week. The soaring dome and stunning intricate interior provided an extraordinary acoustic setting for our singers. The cathedral’s historic organ, brilliantly played by Thomas, provided exceptional accompaniment throughout. His two organ voluntaries showcased both the instrument’s power and the building’s acoustics.
The programme featured a wide selection of music, including Joanna Forbes L’Estrange’s responses, Herbert Howells’ Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis and Howells’ setting of Psalms 130 and 131, with William Mathias’ majestic O Sing unto the Lord as their concluding anthem.
Standing beneath Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece, surrounded by centuries of history and artistic achievement was a truly wonderful experience for our singers.
We’re delighted that the Choir will be performing the same Evensong programme at school in the coming days, bringing a touch of St Paul’s splendour to our colleagues and peers here in Brighton.
