In 1939, Frida Kahlo became the first Mexican artist to have a piece of work purchased and exhibited in the Louvre in Paris. It was a self-portrait painted on tin with a painted glass frame. Inspired by this, our Year 4 pupils created self-portraits. First, they painted on top of photocopied photographs. They then painted colourful frames on the back of sheets of acetate. These were then stuck on top of the portraits to create these highly colourful pieces of work that are not only a homage to Frida but also to the Mexican folk pattern that she loved.
