Brighton College pupils are celebrating record results today, with 1,148 grade 9s, more than ever before. The most common grade at A-level last week at Brighton College was an A* and this week at GCSE it is a 9.
45 pupils, an equal number of boys and girls, secured at least nine grade 9s, with 24 gaining an incredible 10, 11 or 12 9s. Science leads the way at the school, with 90% of science pupils getting a 9 and over 300 9s achieved in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Amongst those achieving an amazing 12 grade 9s was Arjun (third from right), Team GB chess champion, who won the U14 British Chess Championship in 2021 and has been playing for the Sussex first team in the 4 Nations Chess League.
Another Team GB champion, Keira, is celebrating after achieving 11 grade 9s. Ranked 2nd in the British Cadet Women’s Sabre (U17), Keira has her sights set on competing in the Brisbane 2032 Summer Olympics.
Following in the footsteps of Old Brightonian and England rugby star Marcus Smith, pupil Alex also got a great set of results. He was awarded Outstanding player of the Tournament when the Brighton College won the U16 All England National 7s title earlier this year. Alex is playing for Harlequins U17s against Newcastle Falcons while his peers are collecting their results from school!
