On Sunday night, the Chapel Choir had the privilege of singing at our annual Grand Carol Service at St Mary’s Church.

It was a magical evening of music and song, with a wide selection of enchanting pieces, all performed to the highest calibre. Over 80 pupils and teachers joined together to deliver the pieces, creating an ambience of unity and cheer in celebration of Christmas. Their angelic voices were accentuated by Thomas' incredible accompaniment on the organ.

The service opened with the tranditional carol Once in Royal David’s City, starring Helena in a solo verse, which perfectly captured the solemn but festive atmosphere of the night. A particular standout performance was when members of the College Chamber Choir joined together to sing a rendition of Gareth Treseder’s Coventry Carol.

Each section harmonised together perfectly and culminated into a moving and soulful piece in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. A highlight was Adolphe Adam’s O Holy Night, which highlighted the astonishing voices of Edie, Cian and Rumi in stellar solo parts. The Choir seized the dynamic composition and harmonies to deliver a masterful performance.

Many Brightonians came to the church to listen to the reflective readings and join the choir in song, creating an unforgettable, magic night.
