Pupils are celebrating today after receiving an astonishing 43 offers from either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge – the highest number in the College’s history. We are immensely proud of our pupils - a huge congratulations!
Fourth Form pupil Isla (Seldon) successfully auditioned for the Brighton Fringe 2024 production of Hansel and Gretel, becoming part of a professional ensemble of actors, playing the role of Gretel.
She is excited to be part of this production and has impressed the rest of the company with her maturity, confidence and talent. The youngest member of the cast by far, Isla has contributed musically to the production, working with Dr Tara Salter (violinist and composer) and Issy Bright (mezzo soprano), blending her voice beautifully with Ms Bright’s, who is playing the Mother.
The story of Hansel and Gretel, a magical, and at times dark tale of abandonment and greed, has been adapted by our very own playwright and Brighton College invigilator Ms Chowney. The story originated in the Baltic region in 1315 at the time of the Great Famine, and was famously written down centuries later by the Brothers Grimm in 1812.
This production recounts the story with warmth and a great deal of humour and features original puppets by award-winning director and puppeteer Darren East. The play will be performed at Brighton Toy and Model Museum from 10–12 May and promises to be a rich theatrical experience for all the family.
This production has been updated to respond to the museum’s intimate and unique atmosphere and portrays the timeless themes of the courage and love that it takes for parents and children to survive in a hostile and selfish world.
We really hope that you will come and support Isla in her first professional role in the Fringe and celebrate her wonderful achievement!
