Jack Cornish giving a pupil a prize for their Leonardo competition entry

The Leonardo celebration event took place last Thursday evening – it was a wonderful chance to come together as a community to witness the amazing creative work of our pupils.

Hosted in the spirit of honouring the boundless ingenuity and artistic prowess inspired by the legendary polymath Leonardo da Vinci, this competition has proven to be a beacon of creativity, innovation and collaborative spirit at Brighton College.

From aspiring artists to seasoned creators, participants from all years and Houses embraced the challenge
to unleash their imagination and channel their inner Leonardo. The competition’s themes, ’Journeys’ and
‘Freedom’, ignited a wave of inventive ideas and remarkable creations that left us judges awe-inspired.

The competition attracted a diverse array of 683 entries spanning across various mediums, including visual arts, photography, literature, film, drama, coding, and music. From captivating paintings and sculptures to thoughtprovoking essays and innovative compositions, each submission showcased the unique perspective and creative flair of its creator.

The audience perused the fabulous exhibition of art and photography and then were treated to work of outstanding quality from a variety of forms, including poetry, theatre, film and music.

It was lovely to celebrate the success of the winners together with their families, the judges and members of the Brighton College community. Pupils were awarded gift vouchers, key rings and certificates, with New House being given the House Trophy.

The aim of the event and the Leonardo Competition as a whole is not simply about winning awards, but it is about encouraging a culture of creativity, innovation and tenacity that will serve our pupils well in all their future endeavours.
