View down the railway at Auschwitz Concentration Camp on a school trip

Last Friday, all our Lower Sixth visited the Auschwitz- Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Poland. This in an annual trip and a core part of our Sixth Form programme, encouraging pupils to engage with and learn from the events of the Holocaust, and to remember the potential consequences if intolerance and hatred go unchecked.

Receiving a guided tour around both Auschwitz-I and Auschwitz-II (Birkenau), the pupils were encouraged to bear witness to those who endured genocide, to honour the survivors and guard against such atrocities, now and in the future.

At the end of the visit, we held a collective service of commemoration at the memorial to the dead in Birkenau, reflecting on all we had witnessed during the day. Our pupils will continue to reflect as they return to school, and we hope they will pass what they have learnt on to others within and beyond our school community.

Part of our school’s statement to pledge our continued commitment to condemn the evils of prejudice, discrimination and racism.
