Pupils are celebrating today after receiving an astonishing 43 offers from either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge – the highest number in the College’s history. We are immensely proud of our pupils - a huge congratulations!
Old Brightonian Marcus Smith (Le. 2011-17) has followed an extraordinary weekend, in which his rugby union team Harlequins won the Premiership title in a thrilling final on Saturday, by being called up to the England squad. Smith was picked by head coach Eddie Jones, and has the chance to make his England senior team debut.
Smith started his England career in 2015, whilst still at the College, playing for the U16s in a match against Wales. He has also been part of the U18s and U20s squads.
England head coach Eddie Jones commented on Smith’s current form: “What we are seeing from him is more like when he played at Brighton College. I remember watching him in 2015 at Brighton College where when there was something on he took it, and maybe for a period of time he was more likely to be a pattern player. He is getting a nice balance in his game between understanding the responsibilities of getting the team organised but then playing what is in front of him and his development is really positive.”
England play against the USA on 4 July and Canada on 10 July, with both games to be played at Twickenham Stadium.
