Wednesday saw the start of the Christmas festivities with the annual Winter Concert showcasing a diverse range of ensembles, from the Senior Chamber Orchestra and flute quartet, to a marimba solo and guitar ensemble.

The concert kicked off with the talented Concert Band playing America and music from Carmina Burana led by Mr Mathias and Mr Brown, followed by the Senior Trio and flute ensemble. Lots of fabulous music followed this spellbinding opening, including the likes of The Sound of Silence and Chameleon from the Guitar and Saxophone ensembles respectively.

The interval provided a welcome opportunity to participate in the Christmas quiz and enjoy some mulled wine, before being regaled with Uptown Funk by the Swing Band and serenaded by Emily Yu (Fenwick, Upper Sixth) on the marimba. The tone shifted with the Chamber Choir’s rendition of Somebody to Love, directed by the one and only Ms Reavey, and their performance of Seek Him That Maketh the Seven Stars.

The night ended on a high, with the Symphony Orchestra playing the English Folk Song Suite conducted by the brilliant Miss Le Brun. All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening that rounded off a fantastic year of music!
