Cast of Oliver onstage applauding the pupil playing Oliver in the final bows

The Lower School Production of 'Oliver!' was utterly brilliant, and the perfect curtain-raiser for our new Cairns Theatre.

Significant for a number of reasons, this production of the Charles Dickens classic was a smash-hit, with every pupil excelling under the spotlight. As the maiden production to be staged in The Cairns Theatre, the pressure was on for our Lower School pupils to deliver but, as the bows took place at the night’s end, what they were met with was a sea of applause.

The direction of this production of 'Oliver!' from Mr Keaney masterfully balanced the dark themes of poverty and exploitation with moments of light-heartedness and hope. The pacing was brisk, ensuring the audience remained engaged throughout. The choreography, lively and imaginative, particularly in the large ensemble numbers, allowed the dancers to navigate the stage with precision and exuberance.

Overall, the whole cast, including the magnificent crew, should be immensely proud of this performance – a truly wonderful spectacle.
