The College’s annual Strictly Come Dancing competition was once again a dazzling evening of entertainment.
The Cairns Theatre transformed into a glittering ballroom as our talented Lower Sixth dancers performed to rapturous applause before an enthusiastic audience and expert judging panel.
After wowing the judges and crowd with their outstanding Salsa, Lisa Hou and Ernest Tang, were crowned this year’s Strictly champions. The award for Most Entertaining Couple went to Cheryl and Ian for their beautiful American Smooth.
The other finalists, Ayaka, Arthur, Gabbie, Teddy, Amalisse, Oliver, Francesca and Oliver, brought brilliant energy and flair throughout the evening. They performed two exhilarating group pieces alongside their partnered dances, having mastered the Charleston, Cha Cha, Quickstep, Tango and Jive.
The judging panel, featuring West End and Hollywood dance star Lee Bridgman, professional choreographer and STOMP artist Lorraine Le Blanc, and special guest judge and BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing contestant Katie Derham, praised the astonishing standard and infectious energy of each performance.
The Brighton College Swing Band provided a sensational live soundtrack, stunning the audience with their interludes and bringing the magic of music and dance to life under the disco ball. Adding to the excitement, last year’s champions, Ben and Bee, performed their sizzling salsa, before crowning the new winners.
Leconfield and Chichester House were proud to support the event, hosting a bar and raffle in aid of their respective charities, Mind and Rise.
A huge thank you to Miss Sophie, Barry and Beata for their wonderful dance coaching; Mr Mathias, the Swing Band, and vocalists for outstanding music; Mr Tilbrook and the technical team for lighting, sound and video; Miss Potter for the stunning costumes; Ms Wells for admin support; and Mr Harvey, Ms Wilkins and Leconfield and Chichester House for organising the bar and raffle.
