Pupils at Princeton on a tour of US Universities

A collection of pupils jetted off to the United States as part of our annual Universities tour.

Under the gorgeous New England sunshine, up first was MIT, where the pupils were treated to a tour and learnt about MIT's collaborative programmes and quirky traditions. They then travelled to Harvard University for an informative admissions session, followed by an engaging discussion with a recent graduate in governance and economics.

Their final stop for the day was Northeastern, which wowed pupils with its amazing engineering and robotics facilities, as well as its unique "hands-on" experiential learning programme. An exceptionally busy day, capped off with a well-deserved ice cream!

Day 2 of the tour saw pupils admire the beautiful campus of Brown University, while learning all about the university's unique Open Curriculum. Thank you to our wonderful Old Brightonians, Om, Max and Pietro, for showing pupils the incredible facilities and for their sharing insights!

After visiting Brown the heavens opened, but the group powered on down to Yale, where they had a Q&A with Old Brightonian, Kieran. Armed with some lovely Yale ponchos, they braved a tour of the campus and rubbed the foot of the founder's statue for good luck.

The third day commenced at the 9/11 memorial museum to see the moving exhibition. After a period of reflection by the memorial pools, pupils headed to Washington Square Park for a visit to NYU, led by Old Brightonian and NYU alumna Natasha. After an inspiring tour of the bustling city campus, pupils took the subway uptown to meet more Brightonians Eric and Kenny and tour Columbia's beautiful green quadrangle with Tarit, Theo and Mason.

The evening saw them exploring the Meatpacking District, walking the High Line and strolling through the new Pier 51 Hudson River Park. After a delicious dinner at Chelsea Market, the group enjoyed the musical Six and a trip to Times Square - a wonderful time in The Big Apple!

The penultimate day across the pond witnessed the group walk to Grand Central Station to ascend to the top of New York's newest skyline experience, Summit. They spent the morning admiring iconic views of the New York skyline, before heading to Princeton.

Basking in beautiful autumn sunshine, they enjoyed a tour of the campus with the Historical Society of Princeton, which focused on the campus' role at the centre of global politics and developments in Physics. Old Brightonian James then talked to us about his experiences and gave advice on applications to the University!
